Just bought an FJ40
Not new to trucks, previously I went through 3 jeeps (a lifted CJ5 with 35s, a lifted CJ7 with 33s, and a 1952 military M38A1 I did a frame up restoration on). I also had a FJ Cruiser I lifted (33’s on it), went three 3 Isuzu Amigos (one was reposed when I was young, one was totaled in a t-bone traffic collision, and the third was lifted but the engine blew. Twice). So, now I’m back to Toyota’s, the most reliable of all the vehicles I’ve owned. I just got an FJ40, with a Chevy 454 big block, and turbo 400 transmission. But…it doesn’t have a cat. My question, is do I need one, and if so, does anyone have a muffler shop in Nassau County, Long Island that they recommend ?
Not yet. I’s arriving next week. Didn’t every car after 1975 have a cat? I think NY law is “if it had it coming out of the factory, it needs to have it now”
Pretty sure you don’t need a cat. Have you tried to get it inspected yet?
